Washing out your dye
There are lots of ways to rinse out your tie dye. In our instructions we go over the most basic way to rinse out your dye, but here’s a little more information on other options more flexible for your time, mobility, and resources available.
With all wash out methods please ensure they are suitable for your garment - some fabrics need lower temperatures or handwashing only.
Rinse each item individually under cold running water (leave any bands/string on). This stops the chemical reaction and washes off the fixative. Stopping loose dye particles from sticking to it. this can be a few seconds as long as it has all been rinsed.
Remove any bands/string and repeat.
Then we have options!
Continue to rinse until clear. You can use any temperature running water for this, warmer will draw out more dye.
Or leave to soak in hot water with a squeeze of washing up liquid. give a quick rinse after. Repeat until clear.
Or pop it straight into your washing machine and run a rinse cycle or quick wash. Repeat until clear.
Once your item(s) have been rinsed clear(ish) giving them a final proper wash in your machine with detergent is recommended.
If you do not have access to a washing machine or your garment is handwash only, using the soaking and rinsing methods above with suffice if you get the water completely clear. Hot water works quickest for this but cold water will too.
Once your item is fully rinsed out it will be fixed and can be washed as normal :)
